Beach Memorial Bench Project
Update on memorial bench installations at Rio del Mar Beach:
The State Parks owns the land designated at the Esplanade between the parking lot curbs and the brick wall. The Association worked in the past to install one bench located on the Esplanade with the hope that additional benches could be installed. Currently, the State Park system has decided not to install any future benches. The Association has communicated with the State Parks and our District Supervisor Zach Friend, as well our State Assemblymember, Mark Stone, and State Senator Bill Monning to encourage a change in the State Parks policy. Unfortunately, the decision not to install additional benches is still in effect.
RDMIA recommends anyone interested to contact the CA State Parks directly as well as any one of the area’s government representatives. The Santa Cruz County Parks Department has a similar program throughout the county. Details and contact information can be found here.

Come and rest on RDMIA's only Memorial Bench at the Rio del Mar Esplanade. It’s a perfect spot to meet with a neighbor or friend after beachcombing or a brisk run on the sand.
